Racism permeates almost every aspect of life here in GA, but don’t mention it because then you become the racist. A thin veneer of civility hangs over the state, but it doesn’t take much effort to identify the racism just underneath this veneer. A guy wrote an op-ed about the huge impact poverty has on learning in the Atlanta Journal today, and boy, it didn’t take long for someone on the blog to draw the inaccurate conclusion that black kids are the only students living in poverty. One of the other bloggers, who is still teaching, mentioned that over 90% of her kids are impoverished, and they’re all white. Surprise! Surprise! The blogger who made the comment never responded to her real life experience which debunked his lame ass conclusion about poverty and kids in the U.S. Guys like the one who posted the comment will never admit that most SNAP recipients aren’t POC. It was obvious he had an ax to grind, and that his main focus was to air his animus about Black Americans, even kids.
